      TO ILLUSTRATE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL AND SHOULD 
      NOT BE INTERPRETED AS A DESCRIPTION OF ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL POSITION WITHIN 
      THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL 
         Provides assistance and advice to library staff, students, and partner 
          library staff and patrons on particular resources, topics, materials, 
          equipment, procedures or functions (e.g. donations, special acquisitions, 
          Reference Desk, AV Equipment) Establishes and/or maintains specialized filing systems for an area 
          of the library Creates, maintains and updates correspondence, computerized materials, 
          files, records and reports Assigns, monitors and coordinates activities of junior staff members 
          and may participate in hiring and providing training to new staff membersEnsures completion of personnel and payroll records of staff Orders, processes, tracks, circulates and ensures return of materials 
          borrowed and loaned, dealing directly with patrons concerning document 
          delivery issues Compiles specialized statistics and reports for an area of the library May supervise an area, provide training and be available to all library 
          areas for information and adviceMay participate in fund-raising events and activities and make recommendations 
          to develop special eventsDerives, modifies, and updates records describing library resources; 
          searches, verifies and edits information to create cataloguing copy 
          and provides original cataloguing and bibliographical descriptions which 
          may involve translation and revision of cataloguing records and materials Determines dealers, agents, publishers and/or suppliers, places standard 
          and special orders and monitors receipt of materials, placing appropriate 
          claimsProcesses resources and invoices, using systems and security procedures 
          to record them Monitors expenditure records and annual expenditures for departments 
          and assists in preparing annual budgetsMay update and maintain a website to ensure proper, accurate, current 
          information is present; retrieve and forward usage statistics and test 
          its component partsProvides copyright clearance/information for reserve desk resourcesParticipates in developing and maintaining standards, policies, procedures 
          and manuals for an areaRecommends policies, procedures, or purchases to individuals or groups 
          of staff for approvalMay provide training, service and/or troubleshooting on media equipmentMay operate a camera to take personal photos, issue and update identification 
          cards for library patronsRecords and balances all monies received for deposit, daily collection, 
          etc. (e.g. fines)Attends meetings and participates in committees, projects and assignmentsProvides circulation services to borrowers utilizing automated and

          of all library resources both on and off campus, explaining library

    | QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory)  
        performance are: 
       Level of Formal Education  
       
        Experience High school completion plus a 2 year diploma from a recognized library 
          technician's program is requiredAn undergraduate degree would be an asset 
         Three years of directly related library experience using procedures, 
          standards and systems appropriate to the area with experience in directing 
          and/or supervising the work of other employees at the same or lower 
          levels or An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experienceSome positions require a basic understanding of HTML and related Web 
          standards and development tools and/or web-based database environments Skills and Abilities  
        Physical Requirements Good judgement; good general knowledge of library techniques and 
          practices and ability to apply automated/manual procedures/systems Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students 
          and the public Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others and use 
          effective troubleshooting skills Demonstrated ability to train and direct the work of other employees 
          at the same or lower levelsAccurate keyboard skills and the ability to use software packages 
          currently in useAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsIn some positions a working knowledge of a language other than English 
          would be an assetMust have good problem solving and organizational skills
